PLEASE NOTE: REQUIRED REGISTRATION FOR THE SEPTEMBER 15 THATCAMP IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

We are happy to announce a session of THATCamp (The Humanities and Technology Camp) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on September 15, 2012, from 9-5.

Sponsored by the Institute for the Arts and Humanities (IAH), THATCamp will be held at IAH’s home, Hyde Hall (175 Franklin Street), UNC-Chapel Hill.

THATCamp is a dynamic, open, inexpensive un-conference where humanists and technologists of all skill levels learn and build together in sessions that are proposed on the spot.

We welcome members of the UNC community AND all other interested humanists and technologists. No affiliation with UNC or IAH is necessary, and attendance is free.

Follow-up Funding provided by Semaphore:
We want innovation & collaboration to extend beyond THATCamp! To that end, groups formed during THATCamp that are interested in continuing to meet during the weeks after the event can apply for $500 in Follow-up Funding from Semaphore, a student group focused on media and technology studies.  Events funded this way must be open to the public but can be focused on any topic or tool. Examples of events could include:
– A reading group
– A short lecture series
– A workshop on a software tool
– A jointly developed software project

The money can be used for food and non-alcoholic beverages for participants, software or hosting services for projects, or small honoraria. A Semaphore Symposium planned for early November will be a natural outlet for any projects completed during THATCamp or with the Follow-up Funding.  Semaphore is generously funded by a Kenan-Biddle grant.

On September 15 at IAH, we hope to create new and wonderful discussions. We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Nesvet, Jade Davis, and Joyce Rudinsky
